GiveDirectly Year-End Match

Update: Thanks to generous donors, the match fund has been filled – but you can still donate directly to families in need to spend and invest how they choose.

In 2022, your donations were delivered to thousands of people in need across 11 countries – from the poorest households in southern Liberia to flood survivors in the hardest hit communities in Kogi, Nigeria.

Raising $1M by year-end will unlock $2M total for people in poverty in 2023. These funds will reach at least 9,000 people in need and enable them to transform their lives.

Don’t take our word for it. Hear from residents in Khongoni, Malawi about how receiving ~$50 per month for the next year has enabled them to invest in themselves and their community.

In Maonekedwe’s words, “On the first payday, I was jumping up and down, and some people asked if I was going mad. Even my parents never experienced anything like this in their lifetime.”

“Peter

Peter (above) is his village’s ‘serial founder.’ After just 6 monthly transfers, he has plans in the works for 5 businesses: tailoring, salon, mobile money, welding, and irrigation.

“Licksina

Licksina (above), 92, has been under the care of her granddaughter Faides, 19. “I was so happy when we got enrolled because my granddaughter can now rest.” Faides was working multiple odd jobs to support her grandmother – with the reduced financial pressure, she can now focus on her own future as well. The rejuvenated Licksina has already planned how she will spend part of her first transfer. “I love tea so much but I have been drinking it just once a month. Now I can buy sugar and enjoy my tea.”

Cash enables people to address their highest-priority needs and invest in their futures – from installing water tanks, to sending children to school, to purchasing their first mattress, and more.

Frequently asked questions

How can I get my donation matched?

Make a donation through this page before 11:59 PM ET on December 31st, and – while match funds remain – we’ll double your donation and send it to people in need. All donations made via credit/debit card, PayPal, wire, and stocks will be automatically matched unless you specify otherwise. If you’d like to give cryptocurrency or via another method, email us at [email protected].

What is the donation limit?

Each donor will be matched up to a total of $50,000 donated during this campaign. If you donate over $50,000, the first $50,000 of your donation will be doubled. As an example, if you donate $60,000 your donation will be matched for $50,000, making a total donation of $110,000.

Can I give a recurring donation?

Please do! Recurring donations make our fundraising more consistent, which makes planning and operations more efficient. If you donate with a recurring donation today, only the payment made before Dec. 31st will be matched.

What program am I donating to?

Your donations through this fundraiser will be allocated to GiveDirectly’s Africa cash transfer programs. Today, most of these funds are delivered as large, one-time grants to people living in extreme poverty.
